WBPSC WBCS Exam Pattern 2020: In accordance with the State Services Recruitment Rules, The Public Service Commission, West Bengal will hold the West Bengal Civil Service Examination 2020. The recruitment notification has released on 04th November 2019. The Last date of the submission the WBCS 2020 Application form is November 25th, 2019. The WBCS preliminary exam 2020 is expected to be conducted on February 9th in offline mode. There is a total of 3 stages of the WBCS Exam, Preliminary, Main & Personality Test. WBPSC authority will release the Admit Card Separately for each Exam. WBPSC WBCS Preliminary Exam Pattern 2020
Written Examination consists of two phases – Preliminary and Mains Exam. WBCS Prelims exam is a screening test and is conducted to filter out the candidates for the WBCS Main examination. The marks obtained in the WBCS Prelims Exam is not considered for the final merit. WBCS Prelims exam contains 200 objective type questions and the time limit is 150 Minutes. Each objective type question will be of one mark and hence the total marks in the WBCS exam will be 200.

There shall be negative marking for each wrong answer to multiple-choice questions (MCQ Type). The quantum of negative marking is not mentioned in the official notification and will be notified at the time of paper.

WBPSC WBCS Preliminary Exam Syllabus:

  • English Composition– Synonyms and Antonyms, Idioms and Phrases, Vocabulary Test, Phrasal Verbs, Homophones, Fill in the qualifying words
  • General Science– General appreciation, Understanding of science, Matters of everyday observation, Experience as expected from an educated person not having made special studies of scientific disciplines
  • Current Events of National and International Importance– Significant events affecting India and its relations with the world
  • History of India– Ancient, Medieval, Modern
    Geography of India with special reference to West Bengal- Physical Geography, Social Geography, Economic Geography
  • Indian Polity and Economy– Indian Constitution, Panchayati Raj, Constitutional Bodies, etc.
  • Indian National Movement– Nature and character of Nineteenth-Century Resurgence, Growth of Nationalism, Attainment of Independence
  • General Mental Ability– Logical Reasoning, Common Aptitude

Main Exam: After the Preliminary Stage, shortlisted candidates will have to appear for WBCS (Exe.), etc. (Main) Exam. The WBCS Main Exam 2020 will be descriptive having six compulsory papers and one optional subject having two papers. Out of six compulsory papers, the General Studies I, General Studies II, Paper of the Constitution of India and Indian Economy including the role and functions of the Reserve Bank of India and the Paper of Arithmetic and Test of Reasoning will be of objective type only. Only candidates appearing for Group A and Group B exam have to take exams for Optional Subject. The rest of the papers will be descriptive. Each paper, Compulsory or Optional, will carry 200 marks and will be of 3 hours duration.
