About Haldia Govt. College:
Haldia Government College, established in 1988, is the oldest government college in Purba Medinipur district. It offers undergraduate courses in arts, sciences and one self-finance course (Tourism and Travel Management). There are also two postgraduate courses, Chemistry and Geography. It is affiliated with Vidyasagar University. Haldia is a famous river-port town on the banks of the Hooghly River. It is an industrial belt in eastern India. The government of West Bengal established this college in 1988 to fulfil the higher education demands of this area. The college is located beside the broad four-lane highway between Rani Chak and the City Centre bus stop. It is well connected with NH-41 and also the South-Eastern Railways. Recently, Haldia Government College has been awarded a B+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college is also recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Haldia Government College Admission Criteria:
For Honours Degree Course: Qualifying Higher Secondary or equivalent examination in 2020 with minimum 45% marks in aggregate to be calculated by adding the marks obtained in best five subjects excluding Environmental Studies) or 50% marks in the subject or a related subject.
For General Degree Course: Pass marks in at least five subjects in Higher Secondary or equivalent examination.
Other Important Information:
i. Any candidate seeking admission to a course in laboratory-based subjects must have obtained pass marks in those subjects/relevant subjects at the Higher Secondary level.
ii. In addition to the above any candidate seeking admission to Honours course in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics must have passed in Mathematics in Higher Secondary or equivalent examination.
iii. Any candidate seeking admission to Honours courses in Anthropology, Economics, Education, Sociology or Statistics and not having these subjects at H.S. or equivalent level, must have any one of the following relevant subjects in Higher Secondary or equivalent course.
iv. Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination in 2018 and 2019 may also apply.
v. Candidates who have passed 10+2 level examinations from West Bengal Council of Vocational Education and Training Board or Open School are eligible to apply for only B.A general course and B.A. (Major) course in Tourism and Travel Management.
vi. The candidates who will opt for Physical Education as a general subject will have to pass a qualifying examination after the commencement of class. If they fail to qualify for the test they are to opt for another subject.
Haldia Govt. College Merit List:
Admission will be done on a merit basis and merit point for admission in Honours courses is to be calculated by adding 10% of total marks obtained in the best five subjects excluding Environmental Studies at Higher Secondary/equivalent examination and the marks obtained in the subject or related subject in which the admission in Honours course is sought. The merit points for admission to General courses are to be calculated by adding the marks obtained in the best five subjects excluding Environmental Studies of H.S./equivalent examination.
Haldia Govt. College Counselling:
Admission is made strictly on the basis of merit as per the marks obtained in the last qualifying examination, keeping in view the stipulated Rules and Regulations set by the University of Vidyasagar and the Higher Education Department of State Government. There is also a provision of reservation of seat of
SC/ST/OBC/PH as per Government Rules.
