About Chandannagar College

Chandannagar College is mostly popular as Duplex College is a wee reputed college in Hooghly. It was originally founded as St. Mary’s Institution by the French Catholic Missionary, Rev. Magloire Barthet in 1862. The institution was renamed College Duplex in 1901, in memory of Lord Joseph François Dupleix. After independence, the college again renames Chandannagar Government College. At first, it was affiliated with Calcutta University in 1891. But now it is affiliated with the University of Burdwan.
